(7/4/97) The Statue of Liberty is the symbol of American Freedom, of Opportunity for all, and it rests on blocks of granite–Stony Creek Granite–cut from the coastal hills of Connecticut, stone that is dug in only one place anymore, in a quarry owned by two brothers, the third generation of a family business begun by immigrants. Jerry and Steve Castellucci are used to being out where where the stone is quarried and cut, but they find themselves in buildings made from their stone, with bankers and lawyers, and the future of their company on the table. They are running the business inherited from their father and grandfather… and trying, desperately, to save it.
